Braxton Osting is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Utah. His research develops analytical and computational tools for problems in the natural and applied sciences, with particular emphasis on optimization, partial differential equations, computational geometry, and machine learning.
He received his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Columbia University and completeted his undergraduate studies at the University of Washington. He was subsequently an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles before joining the University of Utah.
Outside of mathematics, he enjoys biking, skiing, running, hiking, and generally spending time outdoors.
